The Duncantell Foundation: A Nonprofit Dedicated to Ending Intimate Partner Violence
Introduction
The Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of the Arthur Lee Duncantell II Foundation, also known as "The Duncantell Foundation Inc." is no stranger to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). Our organization understands the devastating impact of IPV on families and was founded in memory of a young man who lost his life to this violent crime.
Sheilah Kimble, once a victim of IPV, tragically lost her son to the same fate that she had escaped. A living testament to our mission, Kimble knows firsthand the pain and emotional turmoil after being impacted by trauma and tragedy. Rather than becoming a victim, she transformed her bitterness into betterness by becoming an advocate for change and a self-published author. This experience has now led her to work with our nonprofit.
Statistics
IPV is a devastating experience that can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, or socioeconomic status. According to the CDC's National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, it is reported that more than 63 million women and 53 million men have either been exposed to or have experienced IPV in their lifetimes. Among 178,940 intentional violent deaths, 9.5% had IPV circumstances. That is (15.3% IPV related), and 139,143 total deaths among men (7.8% IPV related).
Our Work
The key aspect of our organization is our commitment to helping individuals turn their experiences into something positive. "Let the Healing Begin." Letting the healing begin focuses on ways to prevent youth from being exposed to IPV.
Our organization is dedicated to promoting healing and sustainability in our communities by providing community resources, mental health support, and education on trauma-informed care. We believe that everyone has the power to overcome adversity and that healing begins by acknowledging and addressing any traumas that may be impeding progress. We honor the memories of our loved ones who have been taken from us too soon and strive to help individuals and families heal from all forms of trauma.
Our founder, Kimble, is an inspiration to us all, having overcome unfathomable obstacles throughout her life. As a bestselling author, she has authored books that focus on the topics of IPV and the struggles that affect male victims as well. Her journey has inspired her to use her platform to help others and to change the narrative about gender-based violence, creating a community that is supportive and safe.
With the COVID-19 pandemic has made the already difficult circumstances for vulnerable families even more challenging, and we want to help. Our organization is committed to lending a hand by providing the necessary support to help families get back on their feet. Our services are designed to cater to the unique needs of each family we serve and are tailored to address their specific challenges.
Conclusion
Dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of those around us, we are committed to ending domestic violence and creating a brighter future for all survivors. Our work is conducted with the help of other organizations in the community, and we aim to promote essential changes in law enforcement, mental health, healthcare, and other legal aspects that are necessary for growth, social change, and economic empowerment. We invite you to join us in our fight against IPV.
